Indy Pro 2000 – 2020 Silly Season Update

The 2019 Indy Pro 2000 Series presented by Cooper Tires came down to a two point margin. between 1st and 2nd place with Kyle Kirkwood taking the title over Rasmus Lindh. Looking at the potential drivers and teams for the series in 2020, I expect it to be just as competitive, if not even more so. At least 10 drivers have a realistic chance at claiming the championship in 2020. Let’s take a look at the 2019 grid and see where they potentially end up for 2020 as well as look at the newcomers to the series.

Kyle Kirkwood

The 2019 Indy Pro 2000 Champion was last seen testing with Andretti Autosport at the December Sebring Indy Lights Test. As the scholarship winner, he is expected to compete in Indy Lights during 2020, although no official announcement has been made regarding his team.

Who fills his seat?

RP Motorsports USA, the team from Lombardia, Itialia had Braden Eves, Artem Petrov, and Manuel Sulaiman in their cars at the October Chris Griffis Testing in Indy. Braden Eves has signed with Exclusive Autosport.

Rasmus Lindh

Rasmus has tested with Andretti Autosport and HMD Motorsports in an Indy Lights car during the offseason.

Who fills his seat?

Phillippe Denes, Parker Locke, Artem Petrov, and Matt Round-Garrido have all tested with Juncos Racing during the offseason with Petrov, Garrido, and Denes at the Yacademy Winter Testing that took place in December in Florida.

Parker Thompson

The Canadian has been announced as a driver for a 3rd DEForce Racing entry in Indy Pro 2000 for 2020, joining Kory Enders and Moises de la Vara in the blue cars.

Who fills his seat?

Parker drove for Abel Motorsports in 2019. Abel Motorsports has tested Jacob Abel, Flinn Lazier in the car at official offseason test sessions. Lazier has also tested an Indy Lights car for Belardi Auto Racing in December in Sebring.

Sting Ray Robb

Sting Ray Robb finished fourth in the 2019 Indy Pro 2000 season standings. He has not been at an official test session with Juncos Racing during the offseason. His activity in the offseason on social media has highlighted his hunting in Idaho.

Who fills his seat?

Phillippe Denes, Parker Locke, Artem Petrov, and Matt Round-Garrido have all tested with Juncos Racing during the offseason.

Danial Frost

Danial Frost has been testing an Indy Lights car with Andretti Autosport during the December Sebring Test, posting the 4th fastest overall time. He did not test an Indy Pro 2000 car in October in Indy or at Yacademy in December.

Who fills his seat?

Braden Eves has been announced to run for Exclusive Autosports in 2020. Exclusive also tested Raoul Hyman and Kellen Ritter at the Chris Griffis Memorial Test in October at Indy.

Nikita Lastochkin

Nikita Lastochkin tested an Indy Lights car with Exclusive Autosport in December at Sebring as they expand into that series for 2020. He did not test an Indy Pro 2000 car in October in Indy or at Yacademy in December.

Who fills his seat?

TBD – Exclusive tested Raoul Hyman and Kellen Ritter at the Chris Griffis Memorial Test in October at Indy.

Kory Enders

The 2019 Indy Pro 2000 Podium finisher, as well as F4 Austin podium winner, will return to DEFORCE Racing for 2020. He will be joined by a new teammate – Parker Thompson.

Jacob Abel

While there has not been an official announcement yet from the team, Abel Motorsports, Jacob is expected to be back in the car for 2020. He tested with the team at the Chris Griffis Memorial Test in October at Indy.

Antonio Serravalle

Antonio Serravalle tested an Indy Lights car with Exclusive Autosport in December at Sebring as they expand into that series for 2020. He did not test an Indy Pro 2000 car in October in Indy or at Yacademy in December.

Phillippe Denes

Phillippe Denes tested with Juncos Racing during the Yacademy winter testing in Florida and in October at Indy. No official announcement has been made regarding his 2020 season or the Junco Racing Indy Pro 2000 lineup.

Ian Rodriguez

Last Raced in 2019 at Mid-Ohio in Indy Pro 2000. Ian has not participated in the Chris Griffis Memorial test at Indy in October or the Yacademy Winter Testing in Florida.

Charles Finelli

Last seen running in the Baja 1000 with FatBoy Racing, his 2019 Indy Pro 2000 team. Charles has not participated in the Chris Griffis Memorial test at Indy in October or the Yacademy Winter Testing in Florida.

Antoine Comeau

Last seen winning the NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill in the Turn3 Motorsports Radical with Peter Dempsey. Antoine participated in the Chris Griffis Memorial test at Indy in October and is expected to return for the 2020 Indy Pro 2000 campaign.

Artem Petrov

Artem Petrov tested with Juncos Racing during the Yacademy winter testing in Florida and with RP Motorsports USA in October at Indy. No official announcement has been made regarding his 2020 season or the Junco Racing or RP Motorsports USA Indy Pro 2000 lineup.

Jacob Loomis

Jacob ran 4 races in Indy Pro 2000 in 2019, the last being at Road America. Jacob has not participated in the Chris Griffis Memorial test at Indy in October or the Yacademy Winter Testing in Florida.

Matt Round-Garrido

Matt Round-Garrido tested with Juncos Racing during the Yacademy winter testing in Florida and in October at Indy. No official announcement has been made regarding his 2020 season or the Junco Racing Indy Pro 2000 lineup.

Parker ran 2 races in Indy Pro 2000 in 2019, the last being at St. Pete. Jacob participated in the Chris Griffis Memorial test at Indy with Juncos Racing in October and at the Yacademy Winter Testing in Florida with Cape Motorsports in USF2000 in December.

Hunter McElrea

Hunter McElrea tested with his USF2000 team Pabst Racing in an Indy Pro 2000 car during the Chris Griffis Memorial test at Indy in October, where he was fastest overall. No announcement has been made regarding McElrea with Pabst Racing for 2020.

Colin Kaminsky

Colin has been announced as a driver for Pabst Racing in Indy Pro 2000 for 2020 with Slick Locks as his sponsor.

Darren Keane

The 2019 USF2000 5th place driver has been focused on his studies at the University of Florida and has not tested an Indy Pro 2000 or USF2000 car this offseason at an official test.

The 2020 Indy Pro 2000 championship will be a shootout with Parker Thompson, Kory Enders, Moises de la Vara, Jacob Abel, Phillippe Denes, Artem Petrov, Matt Round-Garrido, Braden Eves, Hunter McElrea and Colin Kaminsky all dreaming of being the season champion as the season approaches.
