Rinus VeeKay Dominates Laguna Seca Race 1 in Indy Lights

by The Earl of Indy, Robert Earl |

Slightly lost in the Championship celebration for Oliver Askew was the dominating performance turned in by Rinus VeeKay on the 2.238 mile Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca Road Course. VeeKay started on the pole position and never looked back, setting fast lap of the race and winning by 9.8874 seconds over Portland winner Toby Sowery.

Knowing that the championship was all but out of his reach as soon as the race started, VeeKay showed his skills by focusing on the race at hand and controlling what he could control at that point.

To say that Rinus was pleased with the performance is an understatement.

Robert Megennis rounded out the podium with a solid 3rd place, holding off Askew for the final 10 laps.

It was also an impressive performance for his Juncos Racing team that prepared the car.

Beautiful Execution – Well Put Anders Krohn.

Rinus will look to carry out a weekend sweep as he starts race 2 from pole position as well.
